In AI, We Trust: Part 2

Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape how people interact with technology, and Indonesia is no exception.

According to our findings in the first part of this article, we discovered that 6% of Indonesians talk to and share their feelings with AI, and 58% of them even consider AI as a replacement for psychologists [1].

Thus, how much trust do Indonesians have in AI?

Let’s find out the final result of this study in this article.

Our data shows that some people in Indonesia are considering AI as a substitute for psychologists [1]. The top reason why this phenomenon occurs, cited by 39%, is that going to a psychologist is expensive, while using AI is free. Another 27% believe that AI is better at keeping secrets than humans, including psychologists. Around 11% think AI can help solve personal problems, whereas psychologists primarily focus on restoring mental health. Lastly, 10% feel that AI is less judgmental, more neutral, and understanding compared to psychologists.

However, Boy Irvan, Associate Account Director of Snapcart in Jakarta (24/4) stated, “Even though some people in Indonesia trust AI in personal matters, a significant majority remain neutral, suggesting cautious optimism.

Our research found that trust in AI varies across the population. 13% of Indonesians say they highly trust AI, 27% express a general level of trust, and 58% remain neutral. Only 1% report a lack of trust, and notably, nobody (0%) said they completely distrust AI, indicating a largely positive perception overall.

Key Reasons Indonesians Use AI Technology

AI is seen as highly effective for complex problem-solving, with 29% of Indonesians saying it performs better than their human colleagues in this area. 19% appreciate AI for helping them complete tasks more quickly and easily. Meanwhile, 18% feel comfortable asking AI anything without the fear of being judged. Another 14% are drawn to AI for its seemingly limitless capabilities—doing things far beyond what they can imagine.

The Most Popular AI Platforms in Indonesia

AI is becoming an integral part of digital life in Indonesia. The most frequently used platform is ChatGPT (71%), followed by Meta AI (52%), and CapCut (40%). Gemini is used by 34%, and Google Assistant by 23%. These platforms serve diverse functions, from productivity tools to creative apps and personal assistants.
