Many study reports stated cats are the most popular kind of animal that are being adopted in Indonesia as a pet. When it comes to the number of cat owners in Asia, Indonesia even tops the list [1]. In October 2024, our survey also discovered that indeed, 61% of Indonesians have cat(s) as their pet.

However ironically, there are still many cat owners who do not know the right way to take care of their fur babies [2]. According to a survey by Royal Canin in 2022, there were only 29,5% pets that had been examined by a veterinarian [3].

Hence, not only finding out about Indonesians’ high enthusiasm in adopting a cat, this research also discovered intriguing facts about Indonesians’ behaviour as a cat ‘pawrent’.

This survey discovered that more than a half of cat owners in Indonesia have one to two cats, and the majority of them have lived together with their fur best friend(s) for less than a year until 3 years long.

Despite most Indonesians have less than 5 years of experience in taking care of their cat(s), we discovered that their level of awareness in protecting and maintaining their cat’s health are quite high; 67% of them keeping their cat(s) indoor to stay safe from the outside dangers and/or any diseases, and 64% are regularly take their fur babies to the vet for a checkup.

Furthermore, our study also found out that in 2024, most of Indonesian cat ‘pawrents’ are already having enough knowledge to make their cat(s) healthier and live a long life; The majority of them think their fur babies do not just need to be fed every day, but they also need to be vaccinated and given vitamins, just like humans do.

Additionally, they also don’t take extra medications, such as those for cat deworming, for granted. We can actually see this phenomenon, where so many cat deworming medication brands are appearing in the market. According to this survey, in Indonesia itself, Drontal Cat, Anthel Cat, and O-Cing are the most popular brands for cat ‘pawrents’ to be given to their fur babies.
