Eat Anytime, Anywhere: Part 2

The popularity of food delivery services in Indonesia continues to grow, fuelled by consumer preferences and purchasing habits. According to our study, 73% of Indonesians have used this service at the beginning of 2025, and more than half of them (51%) have ordered food and/or beverages online 1 -3 times in this year [1].

Furthermore, our research also discovered a detailed look at what influences Indonesians when choosing food delivery services and their spending patterns, as shown in the infographic below.

“When it comes to selecting a food delivery service, Indonesians prioritize some key factors that influence them in choosing brands of this service,” said Anggia, Research Manager of Snapcart, in Jakarta (4/2).

As represented in the infographic above, here are 5 key elements that affect Indonesians to choose a food delivery:

1. Interesting Discounts & Promotions (36%): The top reason for choosing a brand, reflecting the importance of cost-saving opportunities.

2.  Low Delivery Costs (28%): Affordable delivery fees are a significant consideration for users.

3.  Fast Delivery (15%): Quick service is essential for satisfying immediate cravings.

4.  Availability of Favorite Restaurants (14%): Users value platforms that partner with their preferred eateries.

5.  Good Food Quality (7%): Ensuring meals meet quality standards remains a crucial, albeit less dominant, factor.

Average Spending Per Order

The survey also revealed the typical expenditure of Indonesians for each food delivery order:

  • Less than IDR 50,000: 42% of orders fall within this range, emphasizing affordability.
  • IDR 50,000–IDR 100,000: Another 42% spend slightly more, showing an equal preference for moderate spending.
  • IDR 100,000–IDR 150,000: 11% spend at this range, indicating a smaller but significant group.
  • IDR 150,000–IDR 200,000: 3% of users fall within this spending bracket.
  • Above IDR 200,000: Only 2% of orders exceed this range, reflecting a niche audience.

Utilization of Promotions and Discounts

Discounts and promotions play a pivotal role in influencing ordering habits. However, how often do Indonesians take advantage of these deals? Here’s the breakdown:

  • Constantly: 44% of users actively seek discounts for every order.
  • Frequently: 25% take advantage of deals most of the time.
  • Occasionally: 21% use promotions less consistently.
  • Rarely: 6% of users rarely use discounts.
  • Never: 3% do not use promotions at all.

This highlights that a substantial majority (69%) of users actively or frequently leverage promotions, indicating their value in driving customer loyalty. Hence, for businesses looking to excel in Indonesia’s competitive food delivery market, here are the key takeaways:

  • Offer Competitive Discounts: Promotions remain the most influential factor, so attractive offers can significantly boost customer acquisition and retention.
  • Ensure Affordable Delivery Costs: Keeping fees low ensures accessibility for a broader audience.
  • Partner with Popular Restaurants: Expanding partnerships with in-demand eateries can attract more users.
  • Focus on Speed and Quality: Delivering meals quickly while maintaining quality is essential for repeat customers.

Understanding Indonesian food delivery habits is crucial for businesses aiming to thrive in this industry. By addressing the priorities of discounts, affordability, speed, and restaurant availability, brands can effectively meet consumer demands and build a loyal customer base.
