In early 2025, food delivery services have become an integral part of daily life for many Indonesians.
Hence, with 4.857 respondents, in January 2025 Snapcart conducted research to shed light on how people across the archipelago are using these services, their preferences, and the reasons behind their choices. Check out the result of the study below.
According to our data, this research
revealed notable regional differences in food delivery usage:
- Never used food delivery services: On average,
26% of Indonesians have not yet tried food delivery services. The
percentage is higher in regions like Papua (27%) and Nusa Tenggara Island
areas (30%).
- Frequent users: The majority of users, about
51%, order food 1-3 times. Meanwhile, 6% use these services more than 10
times, indicating a small but committed group of heavy users.
There are key reasons why Indonesians opt for food delivery include:
- Interesting promos and discounts (27%) – Deals
and special offers remain the top motivator.
- Comfort and convenience (26%) – The ease of
ordering food makes these services a preferred choice.
- Lack of time to cook (25%) – Busy lifestyles
lead many to rely on food delivery.
- Bad weather or other reasons (12%) – Delivery
provides a solution during challenging conditions.
- Diverse food options (10%) – The variety available ensures there’s something for everyone.
Furthermore, this survey also discovered that Indonesians are most likely to place their orders at:
- Midday (10 AM – 2 PM): 35% of orders happen
during lunch hours.
- Evening (6 PM – 10 PM): 30% prefer ordering
dinner.
- Afternoon (2 PM – 6 PM): 22% use delivery for
snacks or light meals.
- Morning (6 AM – 10 AM): 8% order breakfast via
delivery.
- Midnight to early morning (10 PM – 6 AM): 5%
rely on delivery during these late-night hours.

This survey discovered that these
food delivery platforms in Indonesia are:
- GoFood (36%) – Leading the market as the top
choice for food delivery.
- GrabFood (28%) – A close second, popular for
its wide reach and reliability.
- ShopeeFood (26%) – Gaining traction due to its
integration with the Shopee platform.
