As we welcome 2025, the automotive market in Indonesia reveals some interesting trends regarding car purchasing behavior.
According to our data from the first part of this article, the inclination to purchase new cars remains strong, albeit with a slight decrease compared to previous years [1].
Moreover, how those who plan to buy new cars choose a car to purchase? Does the price really matter, especially since the policy of the increasing VAT to 12% starts to be applied in this year? Check out the data below.
In this survey, we revealed that 56% of Indonesians plan to buy a new car this year. However, this reflects a decline from 63% in 2024.
Boy Irvan, Associate Account Director of Snapcart in Jakarta (8/1) stated, “Among prospective buyers, 84% have already allocated the funds and set a budget for their purchase. Consistent with last year’s patterns, 81% prefer new cars over used ones, showcasing a robust demand for brand-new vehicles.”
Preferred Car Brands
Budget considerations play a significant role in brand selection. The top four car brands Indonesians are targeting this year include:
- Toyota (35%)
- Honda (16%)
- BMW (10%)
- Wuling (8%)
Toyota continues to dominate the market, indicating its strong reputation for reliability and affordability.
Top Factors Influencing Car Purchases
When deciding which car to buy, Indonesians prioritize the following factors:
- Affordable price (26%)
- Luxurious and advanced features (23%)
- Elegant car design (21%)
- Sturdy and durable machines (19%)
Our findings show the importance of both practicality and premium features in purchasing decisions.
What This Means for the Industry
The data reflects a steady demand for new cars in Indonesia despite the slight drop in numbers. Automakers and dealers can leverage these insights to tailor their offerings—focusing on competitive pricing, advanced features, and robust designs to appeal to prospective buyers.
If you’re looking to tap into the Indonesian car market in 2025, aligning with these consumer preferences could give your brand a competitive edge.
