Using WhatsApp To Connect With Indonesian Customers

The pandemic has changed so many aspects of businesses that not only do business owners need to change their strategies in selling their products and services, but also in communicating new information to customers.

One of the platforms that may help businesses in communicating with customers, is through WhatsApp. In Indonesia alone, there are 143 million users, a big opportunity for businesses to push all kinds of messages, depending on what needs to be communicated.

But the question is, are these WhatsApp users keen on having information from retailers pushed into their WhatsApp account?

90% OF INDONESIANS ARE HAPPY OR OK TO RECEIVE INFORMATION THROUGH WHATSAPP FROM RETAILERS THEY HAVE VISITED BEFORE

The result is quite conclusive and offers a great opportunity for brands and retailers to leverage WhatsApp to build direct relationships with consumers.

Only 10% of Indonesians do not want to have information from retailers pushed into their WhatsApp account. So, it is probably safe to say that businesses can push new information to 90% of Indonesian WhatsApp users without making them feel uncomfortable.

There are perhaps other strategies that can be used to approach the 10% who do not want information sent to their WhatsApp account, as the majority of them say they do not want to receive such information because they do not like advertising materials in general. Hence, further research may be needed to see what types of communication can be used to approach them.

MOST INDONESIANS WANT INFORMATION RELATED TO PROMOTIONS

Not only is it safe to send information to most Indonesian WhatsApp users, but also, 79% of them want promotion-related information to be sent to their WhatsApp account, while 48% want information related to new product offerings.

Moreover, 69% of Indonesians will fill out surveys so that business owners can improve their products and services.

SHOULD BUSINESSES PUSH INFORMATION THROUGH WHATSAPP?

Our survey results show that most Indonesians feel fine about receiving information from retailers through WhatsApp, want to receive information related to promotions, and will fill out surveys so that businesses can improve their products and services. Therefore, if you are a business owner, you might find WhatsApp very useful for sending out information to customers.
